Family history
In 1896, Michael Hunter left his Arizona home to follow the great Alaskan gold rush. He did fairly well and while there met and fell in love with an Inuit girl named Takoda. In time they had a son, Jeffrey. The boy grew up in the wilds of Alaska and learned much from his Grandfather, an Inuit Medicine man named Grey Owl. In time, however, young Jeff yearned to see the land that his father described, and to meet his relatives there as well.He traveled to Arizona and spent much time exploring the desert there.

While Jeff was enjoying the American Southwest, war with Japan broke out. The young Hunter joined the Navy as an Aviator. A year later, he was flying a fighter plane over the Pacific. One foggy day Ens. Hunter was nursing his broken plane back to his carrier after having made his fifth kill. He was badly hurt, a bullet in his left chest. Suddenly he saw a glowing light above and everything went black.
The young flyer awakened to find himself in a new world. A world 300 years and several light years from his own.
The crew of the starship that found him were very courteous and explained everything. He had been found on a wrecked ship that had crashed on a barren planetoid centuries before. They told him that the ship was one made by a race called the Briori. This race had abducted over 200 Earth people before they crashed. The crew and all of the other prisoners had died in the crash. Miraculously, the engine had had enough
energy to keep his stasis chamber working.
All things considered, Jeff took everything well. The vessel
which had rescued him was a Starfleet deep space research ship, the USS
Cooke, and it was almost two years before they returned to normal
Federation space. In that time Jeff had, with the aid of the ship's
helpful crew, oriented himself to his new surroundings very well. He was
a quick study and mastered the skills needed to survive in the 23rd
century. The young man worked so hard he completely impressed the
Captain of the ship and eventually was allowed to serve as part of the
ship's crew. By the time they reached the station near the planet Bajor,
he was fully familiar with the operation of the ship and it's systems.
Jeff had also, at the captain's urging, decided to enter Starfleet
Academy. Four years later, he was ready to begin a career with Starfleet
and to see the rest of this brave new universe.

"Assimilation is complete..."

The website and the ODN are no longer separate entities. No jumping from one site to the other to get information. We have added to our technological distinctiveness to become one. The process of rebuilding the front-end is still ongoing. Making "a" website... that's easy. Making a website that uses all our content over decades... that's hard.
