Family history
Many sentient life forms dream of living in a perfect utopia where famine, deceit, disease, and neglect are nonexistent. Unfortunately, Devon Starr was not given the opportunity to live life in a utopia that many daydream about on a daily basis. Instead, she was subjected to situations that children should not have been exposed to.
Devon Starr was born aboard a Federation cargo vessel while her Minaran father and Betazoid mother were running from Starfleet Intelligence. These two individuals spent several years of their lives serving aboard Starfleet vessels while transmitting privy, classified information to the Romulan Star Empire. Of course, they were eventually captured by Starfleet Intelligence, but escaped from their prison after only two days of interrogations.
Once Devon was born, she was left amongst a group of civilians aboard the cargo vessel. When the civilians noticed the infant, she was brought to the Captain of the cargo vessel. Because the Captain did not wish to have an infant aboard his vessel, he left Starr in an orphanage where she was later fostered by two individuals named Jgrel and Mertey.
Life in the colony was not easy. At the tender age of seven, Devon joined one of the prestigious local gangs. By the age of thirteen, she was considered to be one of their best fighters. Around this same age, Starr’s foster parents were found mutilated in her home. Although she was not close to them, Devon’s foster parents’ deaths caused her to seek revenge on the murders. After spending two months searching for them, the Betazoid/Minaran hybrid returned the favor.
Following the murders Devon committed, she left the colony in an effort to escape oppression. While aboard a Starfleet station, the teenage Starr was caught stealing food by Security Chief Christopher Thomson. Starr spent a few weeks in the Brig while being evaluated by the station’s counseling staff. At first, Devon did not wish to divulge any information to them. However, through careful persuasion, the female teenager dictated her life story to the counseling staff. Instead of sending Devon to a Federation orphanage, Christopher and Vivian Thomson made the decision to temporarily adopt Devon.
Once the adoption was finalized, Devon was raised aboard the station by both her mother and father. Devon idolized her father, which caused her a great amount of excitement. She was now enticed to learn about Starfleet Security so that she could follow in her father’s footsteps. Even though Starr’s mother did not agree with Devon’s potential career choice, her father encouraged her every step of the way. It was due to this encouragement that Starr excelled in her studies.
Unfortunately, two years following the adoption, Starr’s father was killed in the line of duty. This incident caused Devon’s temper to flare exponentially. She became extremely irritable and fell into a deep depression. One year later, Starr made the decision to move past her depression in order to follow in her father’s footsteps as a Starfleet Officer.
Devon applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy as a Tactical/Security Cadet. Four years later, Devon Starr graduated Starfleet Academy with a tactical/security degree. This degree was put to good use aboard Denali Station. When she was promoted to the station’s Chief Tactical Officer, Devon’s mother returned to Starfleet so that she could “watch over” her daughter from a distance.
Starr was eventually recruited by Starfleet Intelligence and served as an Intelligence Officer for a short amount of time. However, Starr experienced a great amount of depression during that time, which caused her to be reassigned to Starbase 12 for psychological evaluations. During this time, it was suggested that Starr changed careers. Due to this fact, Devon Starr earned a degree in general science while serving aboard the Starbase.
Eventually, Devon Starr was transferred to the USS Karelian where she served as her Chief Science Officer and Executive Officer. It only took her a short amount of time to achieve the position of Commanding Officer. Devon served in this capacity admirably, and enjoyed every minute of it. Starr’s time aboard the Karelian changed her a great deal. It was as if she had a new life and a new beginning.
Nevertheless, things went sour during one of the Karelian’s missions. At some point, the Starfleet Commander was placed in stasis due to severe injuries she sustained during a battle with members of the Dominion. A year and a half later, Devon Starr was brought out of stasis where her injuries were eventually healed. However, it was impossible for Starr to return to her duties as the Karelian’s Commanding Officer. Due to this fact, Starr took a position as a command advisor at Starfleet Command. After serving in that capacity for one year, Devon was temporarily reassigned to Starfleet Command’s psychology department where she served as a Counselor. Oddly enough, Starr discovered that she had a knack for the position. Keeping this in mind, Starr made the decision to serve as a Counselor wherever needed until Starfleet Command deemed that they required her talents at the conn of a starship once again.
