Born a foundling Athena Tamesis Sciortino (or Sarah Smith, a name she rejected at age 8) was one of the few children her adoption agency was never able to be place for more than a handful of months at a time and had finally given up on doing so around age 10. It wasn't because she was a problem child or anything like that, she just never bonded with the families and always remained rather aloof after placements whereas she had at least been decently friendly before hand when she was visited by prospective adoptees.
Otherwise Athena was an exceptionally bright child with a love for reading. Not only as a youngster were her reading comprehension at the top of an educated adults chart she could speed through a 1000 page book on a lazy Sunday with minimal difficulty. Time was either spent with individual or team sports and studying.

Education
K-12, Skipped grades 3 and 5. High School electives in Drama, Journalism, Philosophy and Speech/Debate. Starfleet Academy: Tactical Major and Command and Emergency Medicine as Minors. Graduated with an ensigns commission but recruited into the Marines to join Force Recon. Achieved the rank of Major in the Marines. Taken off active marine duty with the slowing of operations after the Dominion war and its aftermath. Holds certificates for piloting of virtually all small spacecraft.
Medical profile
Generally healthy, strong as if not stronger than those of comparable stature with no known medical problems. Specific medical history is classified, may be released to certain medical personnel by request.

Tattoo on her back of a woman astride Cerebus, the three headed dog that guarded the Underworld of Greek Mythology. Does not have heavy brow or green tinted skin generally associated with those of a Romulan background. Ears show only slight Romulan tendencies.
